Measurement and Accountability

Introduction

Results Accountability™ is predominantly a strategic thinking and continuous improvement process. It helps communities and services look at what they want to achieve, measure how they are doing and then question how to improve the measurements.  It strongly focuses on the need to work in partnership as individual organisations cannot change client or community wellbeing alone.

The concept was developed by American, Mark Friedman, and has been introduced into Australia as a logical way to assist programs and services to measure client results and improve performance.  It has been adopted by State Government and used in the NSW State Plan and is being used by several government and non-government organisations including the Community Services, formerly Department of Community Services (DoCS).

Community Services is utilising a version of Results Accountability™ through the CSGP program that funds many neighbourhood and community centres. LCSA believes it is important that centres have the opportunity to inform the CSGP results process and learn about Results Accountability™.  LCSA has developed a pilot using 13 neighbourhood and community centres across NSW to investigate implementing Results Accountability™ across centres and to develop a results framework for our members.

LCSA's RBA™ pilot was rolled out from 2008 - 2010 and over that time created five RBA™ Champions who excelled in measuring and recording how their centre services made a difference in their community.
