Third Sector Magazine enlisted lawyers Makinson & d’Apice to explain the legal recommendations of the Productivity Commission’s Contribution of the Not-For-Profit Sector (NFPS) report. The explanation focuses on the report’s significant legal recommendations to the Government including: sector diversity, and the need for a single legal entity, national fundraising legislation, and a national NFPS regulator. Contribution of the Not-for-Profit Sector research report

The Productivity Commission released its Contribution of the Not-for-Profit Sector report, on 11 February. It provides an overview of the sector in such areas as: the role of not-for-profits, measurement framework, trends in the sector, the sector's knowledge base, regulation, workforce, funding, service delivery and partnerships. The report is now online.

National Compact: working together website and publication

The National Compact was officially signed on 17 March 2010 and aims at strengthening working relationships between not-for-profits and government. It formerly recognises the contribution of the Third Sector in supporting the most vulnerable in society, and outlines how government and the sector will collaborate to achieve real change for a 'stronger and fairer Australia'. The National Compact website has been created containing all related information.

ACOSS: Australian Community Sector Survey report

The Australian Community Sector Survey 2010 Report (ACSS) presents the findings of the Australian community sector survey conducted in November and December 2009 by the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS). It provides information on service provision, income, expenditure, and operational, policy, and workforce issues for the community services and welfare sector. The report is available online.
