Electricity and Gas price increase - Energy Australia update

IMPORTANT INFORMATION RELATING TO ELECTRICITY AND GAS PRICES

Electricity and gas prices in NSW increased from July 1, 2009.

Electricity prices are due to increase by over 20%. Gas prices will rise by over 4%.

This increase means quarterly electricity and gas bills will rise.

Customers Having Payment Difficulties

If you have a community member attending your service who is experiencing payment difficulties there is assistance available.

CSGP Campaign - Phase 4

With the failure by the NSW State Government to provide any enhancement of funding for CSGP services our CSGP Campaign moves into Phase 4. If you have received correspondence from your State member with a copy of the Minister for Community Services, Linda Burney’s response, respond to it now using LCSA’s letter of response. LCSA will meet with the Minister and CSGP peak bodies to discuss future directions and strategies.

Position and Contact Changes

Sandra Handley and Christina Radburn will be switching positions in the Capacity Building Project as of Wednesday 1 July, to enable Sandra to relocate to the far north coast.

While the change will not affect any organisation working in the Capacity Building Project, their email addresses and position titles will be changing as of Monday 13 July to:

Livesmart - multilingual living skills website

www.livesmart.net.aulivesmart.net.au is a new multilingual living skills website for workers and young people. It provides living skills information in six languages (Arabic, Amharic, Dinka, Swahili, Karen and English) to assist young people as they learn about housing, managing mobile phone bills, getting legal advice and staying happy and healthy. It also features an interactive ‘make your own budget’ tool.

Multilingual Disability Terms - fact sheets

Multicultural Disability Advocacy Association of NSWThe Multicultural Disability Advocacy Association (MDAA) conducted a project for the NSW Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care (DADHC), in which professional translators translated 44 terms and ideas about disability into 14 languages. The translations provided a plain English explanation and translation for each term, to help people better understand their meanings. The factsheets are now available online.

New disability parking scheme – have your say

DADHCThe Federal Government is seeking community feedback about the proposed Australian Disability Parking Scheme. The scheme aims to provide a new permit that is recognised across Australia and improved rules around its use. Submissions and feedback on the scheme will be accepted until 5pm AEST on Friday 31 July.

Adult Learning Promotion in September - EOI now being accepted

Adult Learning Promotion in SeptemberLCSA is happy to announce that we have received funding from the Adult and Community Education (ACE) Unit of the NSW Department of Education and Training, to run the Adult Learning Promotion program (previously Adult Learners Week) in September. As with Adult Learners Week, the Adult Learning Promotion program will provide Centres with a one off grant of up to $500 to promote adult learning in their area. EOI submissions are due Friday 17 July.
